How do you prepare for a December run?
The Santa Claus Run is not a performance-oriented event, but it is still worth arriving prepared so that the exercise is enjoyable even in the colder weather.
1. Layer your clothes wisely
The key to December runs is layering. A technical base layer keeps you warm, a mid layer provides comfort, and a thin outer layer protects you from the wind. You'll receive a Santa hat with your race number, but it's also worth protecting your ears and gloves will come in handy on Sunday, December 7th.
2. Warm up thoroughly!
In cold weather, muscles react more slowly, so warming up before running is even more important. Some mobilization exercises, light running movements, and a few more brisk steps will go a long way to getting you off to a safe start.
3. Don't make pace your primary concern
The Santa Claus Run is a true holiday experience. Let go of the pressure to perform, run with family or friends, and enjoy the cozy closing event of the year. Photos, smiles, and shared experiences are more important now than winning over kilometers.
4. Hydration even in winter!
The cold can be deceiving, but you still need to stay hydrated. Have a few sips before you start and make sure to rehydrate after your run!
5. Exercise regularly, even running
You don't need a serious training plan, but 2-3 easy runs a week will go a long way to making your Santa run enjoyable. You can even include musical, Christmas-themed runs to get you in the mood for December.
The Santa Claus Run is a great opportunity to get moving in the midst of the festive preparations and end the year with a fun experience. And if you are a member of the Sports Nation Club, you are in a particularly good position now with the discounted registration.
See you on December 7th: put on your hat, lace up your shoes and let the running festival begin!
